Description
Wingspan 75 – 95mm. The fore-wings are camouflaged in light and dark browns. The hindwings are often covered but flash to show a blue eye on a pink background.
Habitat
Parks and gardens or anywhere that the larval food plants, mainly willows, grow.
Status and Distribution
Common and widespread in England and Wales bur absent from Scotland. Common in Nottingham and at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best Time to See
May to July.
