Description
Body length about 8.5mm. The wings appear very ‘spotty’ in this species, more than in other, similar species and the proboscis is very short.
Habitat
Woodland and brown-field sites where there is plenty of blossom to attract the bees it preys upon.
Status and Distribution
Fairly widespread in southern England, but local. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire and recorded once at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best Time to See
April and May.
