Description
Forewing 13 to 17mm. Very variable but can be pale grey, brown or sandy colour. The forewing is marked with an oval and a kidney shape and a pale outer cross-line.
Habitat
Open woodland, woodland edge, hedgerows, parks and gardens. The caterpillar feeds on the leaves of a wide range of woody plants and trees.
Status and Distribution
Common and widespread throughout England, Wales and southern Scotland. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best Time to See
March to May.
