Description
Body length 6 to 9mm. One of several all black species. The photo is thought to be of Crossocerus megacephalus.
Habitat
A range of habitats are used where there is suitable prey of small flies and a supply of dead wood with beetle bore holes and hollow stems to nest in.
Status and Distribution
Common throughout southern Britain with fewer records north into Scotland. Fairly common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best Time to See
May to September.
