Description
Over all length 7 – 8mm. This species is quite distinctive, with a blue dusting on its head and thorax, dark, metallic green abdomen and reddish legs.
Habitat
Marshy and boggy areas with plenty of emergent vegetation. Adults often perch head downwards. The larvae feed on aquatic snails.
Status and Distribution
Found throughout Britain but commoner towards the south. Fairly common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best Time to See
April to October.
