Description
Over all length 4 to 6mm. The male is black with large red eyes, the female greyer, with dark bands across the abdomen.
Habitat
Damp, well vegetated areas. The larvae develop in fungi and rotting vegetation.
Status and Distribution
Fairly common and widespread in southern England. Fairly common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best Time to See
September - October.
