Description
Over all length 19 – 22mm. This species has a distinctively patterned abdomen with a pale brown base and dark brown and yellow or buff markings. The thorax is marked with dark and light stripes. The wing has a combination of pale and dark markings towards the tip.
Habitat
Rank vegetation beside water. The females lay their eggs onto water plants. The males sometimes display lek-like behaviour.
Status and Distribution
Fairly widespread in Britain. Common close to running water on the reserve.

March to September.
