Description
Over all length 12mm. A bright orange fly with red eyes and some dark spots in its wings.
Habitat
Damp, shady areas. Woodland paths, well vegetated ditches. The larvae develop in rotting organic matter; flesh, vegetation or dung.
Status and Distribution
Well distributed through Britain, but with a southerly and westerly bias. Common on the reserve, along the Lower Path or Willow Walk or behind the Large Gravel Pit.
Best Time to See
May to September.
