Description
Over all length 6 to 7mm. The eyes are red and the head and thorax beige. The wings are stunningly marked in a pattern of black and white.
Habitat
Scrubby habitats with grassland and shaded areas, woodland edge, rides and brown-field sites. The larvae may feed on slugs rather than snails.
Status and Distribution
Widespread and common over most of Britain with a bias towards the south and east. Fairly common in Nottinghamshire but uncommon at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best Time to See
May to August.
