Body length 11 – 12mm. This is a very variable genus of several very similar species and so, from the photographs, it is not possible to go beyond genus but this is probably Tenthredopsis nassata. To make things more complicated, the males and females also look completely different from each other too.
Habitat
Grasslands and hedgerows. They feed mainly on species of grass.
Status and Distribution
Patchy but widely distributed throughout Britian. Fairly common in Nottinghamshire and recorded several times at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best Time to See
May to August.
