Description
Over all length 7.5 – 9mm. A mostly black fly with red sides to the abdomen.
Habitat
Grasslands where the adults visit flowers. The larvae feed within the caterpillars of moths, such as Grass Veneers.
Status and Distribution
Widespread and quite common but showing a southerly bias. Regularly seen on the reserve.
Best Time to See
June to end of September.
