Description
Over all length 6.5 – 10mm. A black and grey tachinid with orange wing bases.
Habitat
Woodland edge and hedgerows, particularly near nettles. Their larvae develop in the nettle feeding caterpillars of Nymphalid butterflies.
Status and Distribution
Commonest in the southern half of Britain and uncommon further north. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire and recorded twice at Netherfield Lagoons.

April to June.
